1997

My father passed away suddenly. I was 16. My whole world was ripped to pieces, leaving me broken and tattered on the floor.

I went from a straight-A student and aspiring lawyer to smoking weed, hanging out with the wrong crowd, and dating boys on their way to jail.

Within a few years, I was snorting cocaine, highly addicted, and making every bad decision you can imagine. I lost my license in a DUI, was in abusive relationships, and was stealing money from Mom to make ends meet.

For years, I traded one addiction for the next based on the decisions I made on the traumatic day my dad died.

I created a deep-seated belief that the Universe did not have my back.

2004

Rather than go through formal treatment, I moved to a country that had the death penalty if you do drugs to get myself clean.

And I got past my addiction to drugs, booze, and abuse, only to replace it with an addiction to following the 'gurus' and doing everything they said to do to be successful.

I didn't know how to find the answers from my own soul.

It's all about the choices we make, every step of the way.

I am now proud to say I'm an ex-addict.

I've come to believe that addiction is not a disease.

Nothing was wrong with me.

I wasn't broken.

I just didn't know I had the power to choose differently.

Now I choose nothing short of extraordinary.

I don't regret a thing.

Life isn't about being perfect, it's about choice.

It requires faith and courage to trust yourself enough to leap.
